Everything You Need to Know About Candy Calories

Candy calories are probably one of the main reasons that Americans have a collective weight problem. Candy is one of the sweetest things to eat, along with desserts and the like.  Even candies that are low in fat are generally very high in calories, due to sugar or high fructose corn syrup used in their production.

Chocolate is one of the biggest contributors to candy calories. The average 100 gram chocolate bar, or piece of chocolate bar, has a whopping 520 calories. But chocolate is a treat that's difficult for many of us to resist.

You can make counting candy calories a game, especially when you have a lot of candy in your house, such as after the kids trick-or-treat on Halloween. Your children can track the nutritional information from the wrappers on the candy, and you and they can figure out which ones are the best – and worst – for them.

First, retrieve the large bag that the Halloween treats came in. Generally, the fun size bars and bags do not contain nutritional information or candy calories on the individual wrappers.

Next, you and your children can make a chart, where you will graph the information you find on the candy wrappers. Help your children to draw a bar graph that will show the candy calories for each type of treat they track. The left side of the chart will represent the number of calories, and each candy should be tracked with a marker of a separate color.

What you're trying to analyze is which of your children's candies have the most calories, based on the graph you and they will create.

After your graph is complete, the candy calories of each type of treat will be easy to compare to the rest. But the candy isn't all the same size, is it? So you need to take the weight of each candy into consideration.

You and your children can next create another graph, where you will chart the weight and the calories of the different candies. Each candy will be represented by a dot, and the placement of that dot is dependent upon the size and calories of the treat.

Now you can use your graph to accurately compare candy calories. You can tell which candies weigh little, but contain a lot of calories. And you can see which treats weigh the most but have the least calories. Most treats will fall somewhere in the middle.

These bar graphs are a great way for you and your children to chart and track candy calories, and compare different types of candies to each other. In this way, you can all choose the candies that are the most and least healthy for you to consume.
